Lions Board Meeting Minutes 4/27/10
June has been a busy month for the Myrtle Beach Lions Club, starting with the installation of new officers by District Governor elect Brian P’Pool. And it is nice to see some new blood on the Board with the addition of the Kaisers.
We welcomed Don & Karen Knaur from Ohio, despite a new location for the summer, and Mike Stonefield as a potential new member.
With the general meeting of June 17 we started the new Lions year out right with the installation of Lion Eileen Kim as a new member.
Eileen works for Edward Jones and has been in MB since 2002. Other interests besides the MB Lions, she has a position on the Board of the Children’s Museum. Lion Eileen is sponsored by Lion Diane P’Pool. Lion Eileen is married to husband, Steve and they have a daughter, Abigail.
. It is our hope that she is the first of ten in the coming year.
Guests at the meeting were Lions Jim Murf & Jack Haggie of Loris and Mr. Steven Kim & daughter Abigail
Speaker: Mayor John Rhodes of Myrtle Beach.
Mayor Rhodes began with a short history of business and growth in MB. Our hotels and restaurants are doing well now he says. There is a reassessment coming to MB residents and property tax relief. The addition of a 200’ Ferris wheel downtown will be something new for 2011.
One of the questions asked, “Is the state doing anything to prepare for the chance the oil will come to us?”
Answer: There is a 1% chance droplets of oil could come to us. The Outer Banks might have a problem but we should not. Our fear should be hurricanes because sooner or later we will get one. So we should all be prepared for hurricanes not oil.
Mayor recommends a great place to eat: Fresh Catch.
Our next meeting is Aug. 5th @ the Firehouse on 38th Ave. @ 7:00 PM with Scott Schult, EVP Marketing director for the Chamber of Commerce. Come and see how we are marketing Myrtle Beach to the outsiders.
The next meeting August 19th @ Firehouse on 38th Ave. will be a 1 ˝ hour class on CPR arranged by Lion Tom. Members are welcomed to being family members to the meeting.
JULY MEETINGS ARE CANCELED, but please don’t forget to make your July visits to other Lion Clubs in the area.
